The American Red Cross has issued an urgent call for blood and platelet donations to make it through the winter. Supplies are extremely low, and the public is being urged to give blood soon.

The Red Cross says it was 37,000 donations short of what they needed in November and December. 100 blood drives had to be cancelled in December, resulting in more than 31,000 blood donations going uncollected.

If you would like to help by scheduling a donation, you can do so by using the free Blood Donor App, visiting redcrossblood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

In addition to making an appointment, there are many blood donations centers that are extending their hours for more donors to give.
