During the Back to School Bash in Comiskey Park this past weekend, a local barber offered free haircuts to kids who read him a book.

It's always nice to hear a story like this! Courtney Holmes is a barber in Dubuque who wanted to help kids get ready to go back to school, in more ways than one. The price of a haircut? The child had to read him a story while their hair was being trimmed. Holmes said," I just want to support kids reading." Free books were given away at the event, and Holmes even helped kids sound out the words.

Caitlin Daniels, a reading coordinator with the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque, was also there to assist kids with their reading.

With today's technology, it seems like kids these days are doing less and less reading. I used to be a HUGE reader when I was younger, but as I've gotten older, I spend much more time on Facebook or watching Netflix. I'm actually trying to get back into reading more, because every time I do I remember how much I love it! The ability to read well is so, so important. Even if this barber only inspired a few children to read a little more, then this was totally worth it.
