Why walk around in the cold when you can ride around in a trolley?!

Just yesterday (December 4th), the city of Cedar Rapids made a big announcement involving downtown transportation! From Friday, December 6th through Friday, January 31st, a trolley will run throughout Downtown Cedar Rapids, as well the Czech Village and NewBo districts. The Downtown CR website reads:

"The trolley will provide a festive and charming mode of transportation, offering easy access to dining, shopping, and entertainment venues during the bustling winter months. This initiative is designed to promote local businesses while adding to the vibrancy of Cedar Rapids’ downtown scene, making it an ideal outing for both locals and tourists."

The trolley will run on Fridays and Saturdays from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. and will make rounds every 15 minutes. The nine trolley stops include:

  • DoubleTree Hotel at 1st Ave & 3rd St (route start/finish)
  • 1st Ave & 1st St near Pickle Palace and Big Grove Brewery
  • Kieck's Lot on 3rd St & 3rd Ave (near LP Street Food)
  • Route 8 Bus Stop on the 3rd Ave Bridge
  • Guaranty Bank Parking Lot on 3rd Ave near the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art
  • Route 2 & 3 Bus Stop on 4th Ave next to the Cedar Rapids Public Library
  • Route 11 & 12 Bus Stop on 3rd St & 8th Ave near Iowa Brewing Co.
  • In front of NewBo City Market on 3rd St
  • In front of the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library on 16th Ave

Oh, and did we mention the trolley is FREE? Plus, on-street parking in Downtown Cedar Rapids is also free after 5 p.m. and on weekends, so you don't have to worry about paying for that, either.

As someone who works and spends quite a bit of time in the Downtown Cedar Rapids area, I absolutely LOVE this idea. Especially with all the fun holiday events coming up this month! I really hope that it goes well and that this will become a yearly tradition. Remember to SUPPORT LOCAL this holiday season!
