Beloved Corridor Coffee Shop Forced to Close Its Doors
Bad news for coffee-lovers in Iowa City: a highly-rated coffee shop is no longer open for business.
Back on May 3rd, Dodge Street Coffeehouse in Iowa City made a surprising announcement on social media. They revealed to patrons that their building had been sold, so they would be forced to close their doors. The post reads:
"Our landlord sold the building to another gas station and we are being forced to vacate. We are heartbroken. When we opened our doors more than 5 years ago, our goal was to be 'everyone’s coffee shop', providing a quality product with excellent service while highlighting other local small businesses. We believe we have achieved that goal but more importantly, we have created a community where all people feel valued. We don’t know what the future holds for DSC but we end this chapter with our hearts full and heads held high."
Located at 2790 N Dodge Street in the same building as a BP Gas Station, Dodge Street Coffeehouse first opened its doors in December of 2018. Owners Kelly Elliott and Jaime Skinner told the Iowa City Press Citizen in early 2019 that they had long been fans of the northeast corner of Iowa City, and wanted to bring something new to that area. Because of its proximity to I-80's on and off ramps to Highway 1, the shop was a convenient stop for Iowans on their way to work. In addition to beverages, Dodge Street Coffeehouse also offered food, a drive-thru, and a play area for little ones. It was consistently ranked as one of the highest-rated businesses in Iowa City on Yelp.
Dodge Street Coffeehouse's last day in business was last Sunday, June 9th, but many commenters on Facebook are hopeful that the shop will find a new location in the near future. For the latest updates, you can follow the business' official Facebook pages HERE.
