Did Steven Avery kill Teresa Halbach? After watching the Netflix series 'Making A Murderer', my verdict is, YES. I'm not sure how, I'm not sure why, but my gut feeling is that Avery is guilty. But that is far from the end of the story.

It's ironic that it was DNA evidence and technology that got Avery out of jail for a 1985 rape he didn't commit, and then it was DNA evidence that helped convict him of Halbach's death. While I believe that the evidence certainly points to Avery in the case, I have no doubt that some of that evidence was planted by the Manitowoc Police Department. Their hatred for Avery was well documented and in many cases shocking in this series. They were made to look like fools when he was released on the rape charge. He was suing them for $37 million dollars. So when Avery messed up and for some reason killed Teresa Halbach, they weren't going to take any chances. Blood in the RAV 4, bone fragments spread around the property. It all had to line up perfectly to make sure Avery wouldn't get off this time. And that leads me to the biggest loser in this story, Brendan Dassey.

Just 16 at the time, Dassey was singled out by investigators. He was of lower than normal intelligence and went along with everything police said. They baited him and led him down the road to his confession. This kid had no idea the mess he was in. After admitting to raping and killing Teresa Halbach, he wanted to make sure and get back to school and turn in an assignment! Hardly the intellect of a killer. His story wavered back and forth, and he was eventually done in by his own defense lawyer! If I feel sorry for anyone in this case, it's Brendan Dassey.

If you enjoyed watching this series as I did, you owe it to yourself to do some research after you're finished. This was, after all a made for Netflix event. The film makers have a bias whether they admit it or not. There are plenty of articles out there detailing more evidence against Avery at trial, that isn't featured in the program. After reading that, and watching much of the series over again with my wife Holly, I can't help but think Avery is guilty. Avery himself hasn't given up though. He currently has new representation that is claiming new evidence in the case will set Avery free. It worked once, why can't it happen again? This time is different though. Too many things point the finger at Avery.

Watch the series. Make up your own mind. I did, and my verdict is GUILTY.
