The movie I chose to watch last week was not one from my original list, but was kind of chosen for me accidentally by Netflix.

I turned on my Roku and clicked Netflix, and as soon as I got to the homepage, the movie Benny and Joon (1993) started playing on its own! I kind of took it as a sign that I should watch it, so I just let it play. And I'm glad I did! I LOVED IT.

I have to say, it was really refreshing to see Johnny Depp in his younger days. He didn't play a total creep or a loud-mouthed jerk, like he does in so many of his newer movies. He was so dang cute! His character Sam was so strange and sweet and I absolutely adored him.

The storyline was great, the characters were great... I really have no complaints about the movie. And Julianne Moore was so young! I didn't even recognize her at first! I really like that the movie gave some insight into mental illness and what it's like to love someone who struggles with it, from a family standpoint and a romantic standpoint.

Some of my favorite scenes include when Sam was making grilled cheese with an iron, when Sam, Joon, Benny, and Ruthie were all watching Ruthie's old movie together, and of course, the first kiss! JOHNNY DEPP IN THAT SCENE! He nearly killed me! So dreamy.

All in all, I highly recommend this movie to anyone who hasn't seen it. It was quirky and cute and easy to get into. Please enjoy this clip from one of my other favorite scenes:
