I made a BIG purchase yesterday and I'm excited to show it off!

Yesterday was a big day for me, because I made my first major purchase without the help of my mom. When I got my previous car, a 2011 Ford Escape, I was in desperate need of a new vehicle. Unfortunately, I had not built up a drop of credit at that point in time, which means my mom had to co-sign on my loan. Since then, I have never once missed or been late on a payment, which means my credit is looking pretty darn good at this point in time. When I went in to look at cars yesterday, I never expected to be driving away in a new one the same day. Things happened pretty fast.

The reason I wanted a new car is almost 100% because of mileage. I was doing a WHOLE lot of driving, often over three hours a day, when I was living in Michigan, so the miles piled onto my car pretty fast. Here, the only time I'm in a car that long is when I'm taking trips back to Michigan, and that's only a few times a year. I figured since I *thought* I only had a year left of loan payments, now was a good time to start looking.

I first tested out a 2015 Jeep Patriot, which is what I originally planned on purchasing. It wasn't black like I wanted, but it had nice leather seats and a sunroof, so I figured that was a good trade-off. I expected to absolutely love it on my test drive, but something just didn't feel right for me. I know a million people who love their Jeeps and would never buy anything else, but I didn't enjoy driving it like I thought I would. So I moved on to car #2: a black 2013 Ford Escape.

As soon as I saw it, I fell in love instantly. It had remote start, heated seats, a good amount of trunk space, a touch screen with Bluetooth capability, an electrical outlet, lights in the car that CHANGE COLOR, and it gets good gas mileage. It was everything I've ever wanted in a vehicle. Since I've owned Ford vehicles all my life, and since I was currently driving an older-model Escape, it felt like a natural fit as soon as I started driving it. I was settled. That's the car I wanted.

The only issue? The cost.

The car was a little more than I could afford. That became especially true when I found out that I owed even more than I thought on my current vehicle (I had two more years of payment, not just one). I thought I was doomed. Luckily, Billy, Shaun, and Spike at Pat McGrath Chevyland were absolutely AMAZING, and we figured out a way to make it work. Do I have to pay more a month than I planned? Yes. But it's so worth it to be driving a vehicle that I love and feel safe in. Plus, my butt is going to be extra warm this winter.

Parting with my old car was harder than it probably should've been. I almost feel guilty, like I just left my old wife for some hot 21-year-old, but I'm trying to focus on the fact that cars don't have feelings...
