You know where to find me every Friday afternoon...

A few weeks ago, the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance announced the start of 'Food Truck Fridays' on July 7th. Every Friday through the end of September, 5-10 food trucks line up on the 3rd Ave side of Greene Square Park in Downtown Cedar Rapids from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. They plan to have different trucks participate every week.

Last Friday, my friends and I had planned to check out a new restaurant in Downtown Cedar Rapids, but as soon as we walked out our office building, we were hit with the smell of BBQ, and that's when we remembered Food Truck Friday. We ended up walking down to the park to see which trucks were participating. I believe that five trucks showed up last week, with two of them being dessert trucks. We made our way over to the Austin Blues BBQ truck, and I went ham on some pulled pork and mac & cheese:

My friend ordered the GIANT loaded baked potato, so I was able to try that, too:

Aside from the Cedar Rapids Farmer's Market, I never really know when or where our local food trucks are going to show up, so I'm very pleased with Food Truck Fridays. I've been wanting to try a lot of them for a long time, so it's nice to have them coming to a set location on a set schedule. I heard that later on during the lunch rush hour there were some long lines, but we got there at around 11:10 a.m. and we didn't have to wait long at all, so maybe the key is to get there early on (if you can). I think the more trucks they can get there at one time, the better it will be for customers.

Food Truck Friday will continue every Friday through September 29th, but it will be canceled if there's rain that day.

Did you enjoy the first Food Truck Friday last week? Share your experience with us in the comments!
