Courtlin Adopted a Dog This Weekend [PHOTOS]

It finally happened!

Back in October, I moved into a rental home here in Cedar Rapids. After five years of living in an apartment that didn't allow dogs and a very long search, I finally found an affordable place to live that's pet-friendly. My previous apartment allowed cats, but I'm highly allergic, so I didn't really have the option.

This past week, I had to officially cancel my birthday trip to Nashville. I was obviously pretty upset about it, until I realized I could put that money towards adopting a pup! The money I had saved for the trip was able to pay for the $300 pet deposit at my house and the $250 adoption fee. I figured this would be a perfect time to adopt, since nobody really has a social life right now. That means we'd have plenty of time to get to know each other!

Things happened a little quicker than I expected. I happened to come across an adorable pug mix on Pet Finder a couple of weeks ago, and I realized that he was up for adoption at Last Hope Animal Rescue, one of the organizations we work with for Furry Friday. After reading that he gets along with other dogs, cats, and kids, I knew I had to act fast. I filled out an application, and last week his foster mom brought him to my yard so we could meet. We got along pretty well, so when she asked me if I wanted to take him this weekend, I said yes! Meet my new buddy Tater Tot:

Tate is a pug/Jack Russell terrier mix and is almost 4-years-old. He loves treats, walks, belly scratches, naps, and destroying stuffed toys. He has an underbite, which I find hilarious and adorable. He does have some food allergies that we're working on, but he is on a daily medication. The only issue is finding a vet that is accepting new patients in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. We are still getting to know each other, but I'm hoping this is the beginning of a wonderful friendship!
