Rare good weather for the girls' state basketball tournament was also good karma for two teams from the corridor.

For the first time in its history, the Marion girls' basketball team is the Iowa Class 4A basketball champion.

Friday night, the team defeated Grinnell, 69-48 while in 5A, Iowa City West upset Iowa City High in a hometown rivalry that prompted early school dismissals.

The final score of that game was 56-45.

Congratulations to these teams on their hard-fought roads to the finals and their even sweeter victories, and to Mother Nature for finally cooperating!
