An Eastern Iowa Man is Taking Care of More Than 60 Rescued Corgis
It's corgi heaven over at Corgwyn Rehabilitation Sanctuary!
Everybody has their favorite dog breeds, right? Don't get me wrong, I love ALL dogs, but there's just something about pugs, Boston terriers, and boxers that make me melt! Well, Brett Butler of Oelwein clearly has a favorite breed, too... CORGIS!
About Brett Butler and the Corgwyn Rehabilitation Sanctuary
Brett Butler is the founder of Corgwyn Rehabilitation Sanctuary, a non-profit rescue in Oelwein that specifically focuses on corgis (or "corgwyn," another plural form of the word "corgi"). Since 2014, the organization has been taking in "the hard luck cases, the last resort cases, [and] the bad behavior cases." The website reads:
"Our goal is the help these corgwyn get to a balanced state of being so they can function as a part of the pack. If, in time working with a dog, we see that they have the ability to be rehomed, then we will see to that also."
Some of the pups are able to be rehabilitated and rehomed, but there are many others that are damaged too severely and remain at the rescue permanently. Those pups are known as "Sanctuary Lifers."
How You Can Help
A new article from KCCI reports that Brett is currently caring for 63 dogs, all of whom live on his 6-acre property in Oelwein. As you can imagine, this endeavor can be pretty expensive. The article says Brett has been using his retirement funds to help care for the pups, but "is hoping for more long-term support so no corgi is left behind."
Between food, toys, medical care, and other daily expenses, KCCI says that Brett is paying around $5,000 a month to keep his rescue running smoothly. If you'd like to contribute to Corgwyn Rehabilitation Sanctuary, there are a few different ways to help:
- Donate to @CorgwynRehab on PayPal
- Donate items from their Amazon Wish List
- Donate items from their Chewy Wish List
- Sign up to sponsor one of the corgis on a monthly basis
