Clear Snow From Fire Hydrants

With the recent heavy snowfall in eastern Iowa (and more expected) everyone has been busy shoveling out their sidewalks and driveways.

But there is another very important place you need to shovel.  If you have a fire hydrant on your property chances are it looks a little like this one.

But after a few minutes of work, your hydrant could look like this

A fire can double in size every 60 seconds, so those precious minutes you save a firefighter could make a big difference.  Hopefully, you'll never need to use a fire hydrant. But if you do it's important to make it as easy as possible for fire crews to reach yours.
