Ah, the signs of spring and summer in Iowa. The green grass, blooming flowers, and budding trees. There is another color that Cedar Rapids residents also need to get used to. Orange. It is also official road construction season and the city is set to see dozens of projects over the course of the year.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that over 40 projects are planned for the 2022 Paving for Progress construction season. Voters last November renewed the 1 cent local option sales tax that will fund Paving for Progress for another 10 years. Program manager Doug Wilson told the Gazette that the budget for projects this year is $26 million due to a rollover of some state funds. That is why the city will be able to work on so many city streets this year.

The biggest project that the city will see this year will be the extension of 6th Street SW to Ellis Blvd. NW, and connecting Ellis to First Avenue. The Gazette reports that the project would be a huge boost to the Time Check neighborhood and improve downtown connectivity. Other major projects include continuing work on 6th Street SW from 33rd to Wilson, Oakland Road and Old Marion Road, and O Ave NW from Edgewood to 27th Street.
