Two Cedar Rapids organizations are teaming up to provide free flu-fighting supplies to local teachers. Hand-sanitizers, anti-bacterial wipes, and facial tissues are among the items that can be picked up free of charge Thursday afternoon.

The non-profit Teacher Store and Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids are combining efforts to try to stop the spread of flu locally. According to KWWL and the Iowa Department of Public Health, almost 100 people have died from influenza across the state of Iowa this flu season.

If you're a teacher who wants these supplies or know one that would, here's what you need to know:

  • Approximately 250 flu-fighting bags will be handed out starting at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, February 15, at the Teacher Store at 606 5th Ave. SE in Cedar Rapids. They'll be available while supplies last Thursday afternoon, or until 6:30 p.m. Any teacher that would like to pick up a bag needs to show their school badge to receive one.
