[UPDATED] Man Injured in Downtown Cedar Rapids Has Died
[UPDATE 6/9 6 p.m.] Cedar Rapids Police tell us a man who was knocked unconscious during an altercation Tuesday afternoon at Green Square in downtown Cedar Rapids has died from his injuries.
Cedar Rapids Police were informed of the victim's death this afternoon. He's been identified as 38-year-old Scott Dexter of Cedar Rapids. His death is being investigated as a homicide and police continue to ask for the public's help. Please see below for more details.
[ORIGINAL STORY] It was just a week ago that Cedar Rapids City Council member Dale Todd made recommendations to help with a growing violence problem at Green Square in downtown Cedar Rapids. Unfortunately, there was another act of violence Tuesday.
The Cedar Rapids Police Department is asking for the public's help after a Tuesday afternoon altercation left a man unconscious. Cedar Rapids Police were called to Green Square just before 4 p.m. Tuesday. When they arrived at the park, at 400 4th Ave. SE, they found a "white male that had been hit and knocked unconscious." The unnamed man was taken to a local hospital. His name and condition have not been released.
According to a release from the Cedar Rapids Police Department, there were many people in the park at the time the altercation occurred. Anyone who saw the incident is asked to call Cedar Rapids Police Investigator Marty Devore at 319-286-5411.
