Waking up to another dreary, rainy, coldish dark Fall day I couldn't help this morning but wonder: how much longer until summer?!

Kids on their way to school each morning may feel the same way. A Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation program that started in the Summer of 2020 gives the city's kids and their families recreation options galore during the summer months as the "Rollin' Recmobile" tours the town and stops at the city parks to roll out free games, hot meals and fun activities for them. Toward the beginning of this school year, they distributed school supplies as well.

KCRG has reported that now, there will be even more of these options ahead as the "Rollin' Recmobile 2" is well on its way to becoming a thing. It's all thanks to a fundraising effort by the Cedar Rapids Parks Foundation, who, to date, are over halfway to their goal of raising $40,000. The second Rollin' Recmobiile would even likely be deployed in the Winter months to warm things up with even more seasonal recreational opportunities.

Laurie Warden is President of the Cedar Rapids Parks Foundation and said:

We’d really love to see more frequency of the Recmobile being out in neighborhood quadrant parks. Making sure that we’re serving all portions of the city frequently throughout each of the weeks of the summer and even you know during winter activities as well that we need more capacity
