Renting can be hard but some places are better for renters than others. A new study has revealed that an eastern Iowa city has been named one of the best places for renters.

Our friends at WalletHub wanted to find out the best and worst places to rent in the country. In order to determine the best local rental markets, WalletHub compared 182 cities, including the 150 most populated U.S. cities, plus at least two of the most populated cities in each state, across two key dimensions:

  • Rental Market & Affordability
  • Quality of Life

WalletHub then evaluated those two dimensions using 22 relevant metrics, did some math, and came up with each city’s weighted average across all metrics to calculate their overall score.

After finding each cities' overall score, they ranked each city from best to worst and this is their official list:

Cedar Rapids is the eastern Iowa city that's the best place to rent.

Cedar Rapids had an overall score of 63.86. In Rental Market & Affordability, Cedar Rapids ranked 5th. In Quality of Life, Cedar Rapids ranked 43rd.

Cedar Rapids also has the highest rental affordability, with the lowest median annual gross rent divided by median annual household income at 15.73%, which is 2.5 times lower than in Hialeah, Florida, the city with the lowest at 40.04 percent.
