New Cedar Rapids Michael’s Store to Open in August

Craft lovers rejoice! A new Michael's store will open in Cedar Rapids next month!

If you love crafting or your kids need materials for a school project, you head to Michaels. The location at 1470 Twixt Town Road in Marion has been open since 1993. Now, another Michael's location will be opening up on the southwest side of Cedar Rapids. The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that the new Michael's store will be located at 3500 Dalton Way SW. It will be in the same building as Ross Dress for Less in the Westdale Town Center.

The Gazette reports that the new 16,000-foot store will be approximately half the size of the Marion Michael's location. The store will be hiring around 50 employees to get the store up and running. Once the new location opens, it will be staffed by three full-time and 17 part-time employees. The store will have self-checkout lanes but will always have at least one employee checking out purchases, according to the Gazette.

The Gazette reports that the new Michael's store will carry most of the same items as the Marion location but in lesser volume. It will also offer custom framing and sell fabrics which the Marion store just began keeping in stock. The new Michael's location in Cedar Rapids will open on August 23rd with a grand opening celebration to take place on September 9th.
