Cedar Rapids Man Killed in Vehicle-Pedestrian Crash
More details have been released on a Friday night traffic incident on Cedar Rapids' northeast side.
According to a media release from the Cedar Rapids Police Department, officers responded to a call of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle on Highway 100 near I-380 just after 11:30 p.m. Friday night, June 18.
When officers arrived, they found a male on westbound Highway 100 above southbound Interstate 380.
The man who had been struck received medical care from first responders and was taken to UnityPoint-St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. The man, 26-year-old Jason M. Lafler of Cedar Rapids was pronounced dead at the hospital.
37-year-old Christopher L. Christensen was driving a 2003 Ford Fusion when he struck Lafler. Both Lafler and a passenger were taken to UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids where they were treated and released.
Cedar Rapids Police say that based on a preliminary investigation by accident reconstruction specialists, they believe Lafler was in the traveled portion of the roadway at the time of the incident. No charges are pending.
