Cedar Rapids Kernels One Win From Midwest League Championship Series
Last night was a long ways from a great night for baseball in Cedar Rapids but the Kernels persevered over the Clinton Lumber Kings. It was a walk-off win for Cedar Rapids, who scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to secure a 3-2 win. Highlights of the 9th-inning rally begin at the 3:20 mark in the video below:
Last night's win by the Kernels sets up a 3rd and deciding game in the Western Division Championship Series tonight at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids. If the Kernels win, they return to the Midwest League Championship Series for the first time since 2015, when they lost the series 3-2 to the West Michigan Whitecaps. It was the first time Cedar Rapids had made the final series since 1994 when they won the title over the Rockford Royals three games to one. Cedar Rapids also won titles in 1988 and 1992, as the Cedar Rapids Reds.
The first pitch for the deciding game in the series is at 6:35 tonight. Tonight's game also features concession drink specials:
- 16-ounce draft beers (regular & domestic): $2
- 12-ounce waters and soda: $1
Best of luck to the Kernels this evening as they try to move on to the best-of-five Midwest League Championship Series. If they win tonight, the Kernels already know their opponent. The South Bend Cubs.
