I have a stunning confession to make. Besides a little "putt-putt"-ting around here and there, I have never actually played a "formal" game of golf!

With a few days off work coming up and celebrating my birthday next week, coupled with the fact that I have rarely been more ready for Spring, I am thinking that might be about to change.

Well, possibly not, but if you're ready, I recently got the annual text message from the city of Cedar Rapids that got my springtime flag flying, as several golf courses in town are already or soon will be open for business!

From the City of Cedar Rapids:

  • Gardner Golf Course opens Tuesday, March 22 (5101 Golf Course Rd, Hwy 13 in Marion)
  • Ellis Golf Course opens Friday, March 25. (1401 Zika Ave. NW in Cedar Rapids)

Hours for both are 8 a.m. to dusk, and you can reserve a tee time, order season punch cards and passes, and more here.

Airport National Golf Course (3001 Wright Bros. Blvd.), according to a phone conversation with their staff, is set to open Monday, March 21. Their miniature golf course is already open and ready for play, and as we recently told you here, so is Mini-Pines Miniature Golf Course, adjacent to the Twin Pines golf course (3800 42nd Street NE).

Rates and information for reserving a single-day 9 or 18  hole round at the city's municipal golf courses can be found here.
