A new medical marijuana manufacturing company that is being built in Cedar Rapids is working on ways to eliminate the odor of growing pot plants.

If you ask me, I'd say they're taking all the fun out of growing the stuff!

But whatever. Who cares. Cedar Rapids is on track for growing and cultivating medical weed to be used to help sick people to better cope with their ailments.

According to the Gazette, Acreage Holdings, the company that will grow the plants in Cedar Rapids will work to reduce the aroma of growing grass plants because...well, not everyone enjoys that smell.

“The strong smell of cannabis can often escape cultivation buildings and processing centers into the outside air,” said Phil Hague, director of cultivation for Acreage Holdings, the New Jersey-based company awarded a state license to manufacture medical marijuana in Cedar Rapids. “These telltale smells of growing cannabis are not always welcomed by neighbors or municipalities.”

The company plans on building a 10,000 square foot facility at 1420 26th Ave. Court SW and expects to employ about 20 people.

The City of Five Seasons is sometimes jokingly called the city of five smells. And we ain't talking Crunchberries here...

I guess it would come as no surprise that to some of our city residents, the smell of fresh marijuana is NOT one of the smells it wants to be known for.
