The theme song to the show 'Friends' is one of the most memorable in TV history. But 'I'll Be There For You' by The Rembrandts wasn't the first choice! They were hired to sing the theme song when the band REM refused to hand over the rights to their big hit 'Shiny, Happy People'. The song was even featured in the pilot for the show, which at that time was called 'Friends Like Us'.

Which song do you like more? Not that REM needed any help with their success, but imagine the royalty fees they gave up by not lending the song to one of the most popular TV shows of the era!
