Cam Calls ‘Mayday’ on ‘Jimmy Kimmel’
Cam sent out her emergency signal on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday night (March 21) when she debuted her new single “Mayday,” a mid-tempo pre-breakup ballad about a relationship long overdue for an ending.
Though the tune’s subject matter is a bit melancholy, Cam performed the tune with a smile, clearly happy to be on stage performing at the late night show.
The artist showed off her flawless vocals and traded her trademark yellow for a subtler black dress, but not without some flair, of course. Backed by an energetic band, Cam breezed through the verses as the lyrics appeared on enormous screens flanking the back side of the stage. The guys chimed in on background vocals for the first lines and catchy chorus, creating a dreamy blend of harmonies with Cam on lead. Toward the end they provided a captivating layering effect by repeating those first lyrics behind her final chorus, finishing out another artistic and high-quality performance, something we’ve come to expect from Cam.
“Mayday” is the second single from her debut full-length record Untamed, released in December 2015. Written by Cam and Tyler Johnson, it follows the leadoff track “Burning House,” which rocked the country world and made Cam the rising star to watch in the genre. She’s the most-nominated female artist at the upcoming 2016 ACM Awards and will be performing at the ceremony, as well. She’s up for New Female Vocalist and “Burning House” is nominated for Single, Song and Video of the Year.
