Reporter With Inappropriate Question for Caitlin Clark Punished
A newspaper reporter from Indianapolis has been punished for his inappropriate question to Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark.
The incident happened at Caitlin Clark's April 17th news conference after being selected #1 overall by Indiana in the WNBA Draft. Indianapolis Star reporter Greg Doyel flashed a heart sign to Clark and had this awkward interaction.
Doyel's comments and interaction with Clark drew widespread criticism according to Yahoo Sports. Doyel issued an apology on social media and later wrote a column further apologizing to Clark admitting that he realized that he was "part of the problem." Clark has not addressed Doyel's comments.
Yahoo Sports is now reporting that Doyel has been banned from covering the Indiana Fever by the Indianapolis Star. A spokesperson confirmed the story Tuesday morning. It was also learned that Doyel was in the midst of a two-week suspension without pay.
People report that Doyel will be allowed to write columns about the Fever this season, but will NOT be allowed to attend any games in person which will also remove him from press conferences too. Sources say that Doyel is scheduled to return to the Star on Monday, May 13th.
