A New French Bakery & Cafe Has Opened in Cedar Rapids
Fresh croissants have officially returned to Cedar Rapids thanks to a new French bakery & cafe! Café Déjà Vu is now open at 3655A 1st Ave SE.
About Café Déjà Vu
Late last month, we told you about Café Déjà Vu, a new business coming to the Town & Country Shopping Center in Cedar Rapids. The bakery & cafe is owned by Ian and Isabelle Cummings, the former owners of a popular French bakery called Croissant Du Jour, as well as their daughter Alyson. Croissant Du Jour was open at 3531 Mount Vernon Rd in Cedar Rapids from 2004 until 2016. Then, the bakery was changed into a French bistro called L’Auberge, which also ended up closing.
The Cummings have brought back some of their beloved recipes for Café Déjà Vu, including their quiche, French onion soup, and, of course, their croissants. They noted on Facebook that customers can expect other favorites in the future, including their lobster bisque.
On May 14th, Café Déjà Vu officially began welcoming customers at 3655A 1st Ave SE, and the response from the community has been great. It's been so great, in fact, that the new cafe has posted about running out of pastries and having to close early several times! And, the cafe already has a 5-star rating on Google thanks to 11 reviews. One from a local man named Rick Mason reads:
"Cafe Deja Vu opened today, May 14. The food and service were excellent. The croq madame sandwich was extraordinarily good. Best sandwich I have eaten in along time. The bakery case was loaded with delectable treats. We tried the croissants and the Bundt cakes. All were excellent. Let’s hope Cafe Deja Vu becomes a fixture in Cedar Rapids."
Business Hours
Café Déjà Vu is open Tuesday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., with lunch served daily from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. They are closed on Sundays and Mondays.
If you do decide to visit the new bakery & cafe, please remember to be patient! A post from the Facebook page reads:
"Because we are working with a new setup and system, things might take a few minutes longer than usual during these first few weeks. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we get fully settled in. We hope to see you soon!"
