Former Cyclone Brock Purdy Gets Great News at 49ers Training Camp

Former Iowa State Cyclones quarterback Brock Purdy suffered a serious arm injury on January 29, 2023, during the NFC Championship game. Nearly six months later, he and his team, the San Francisco 49ers, have received news that's almost hard to believe.

The 49ers lost the NFC Championship game to Philadelphia 31-7, and it appeared they may have also lost Brock Purdy for much of the 2023 season.

Purdy, who burst onto the NFL scene in relief of an injured Jimmy Garoppolo on December 4, helped lead San Francisco on a 7-game winning streak to end the regular season. The 49ers took out Seattle and Dallas in the playoffs before Purdy was injured after starting 4 for 4 in passing against Philadelphia.

A hit on Purdy's throwing arm in the game against the Eagles resulted in a torn Ulnar Collateral Ligament. In the video below, Purdy discusses the uniqueness of the injury in football.

Purdy had surgery on the elbow on March 10, and less than 20 weeks later has now been fully cleared by doctors. That's an amazing recovery.

The great news came via 49ers General Manager John Lynch, who says there are no restrictions on what Purdy will be allowed to do on the field.

The 49ers have three preseason games, beginning on August 13 against the Las Vegas Raiders. They're also set to take on Denver on August 19 and the Los Angeles Chargers on August 25.

The 49ers open regular season play at Pittsburgh on Sunday, September 10. Brock Purdy threw for nearly 2,000 yards (regular and postseason) to go along with 16 touchdowns and only 4 interceptions in his rookie campaign. It will be a surprise if he's not under center when his second season begins.
