Have you ever heard of 19 Crimes? I hadn't until a few days ago when I saw a viral video circulating on Facebook. I didn't think much of it, until a friend of mine sent me a video after purchasing the wine himself. I didn't realize it was something you could buy right here in Eastern Iowa!

So, what makes 19 Crimes so special? Well, the wine bottle actually TALKS to you. If you don't believe me, check out this video:

How freaking cool is that?!

The 19 Crimes labels are able to talk to you using a special app that uses augmented reality (AR) technology. According to Wikipedia, AR technology is "a live direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are "augmented" by computer-generated or extracted real-world sensory input such as sounds, video, graphics, haptics, or GPS data." Basically, all you have to do is download the free app, point your camera at the guy/gal on the label, and watch as is comes to life.

So who exactly are these folks on the label? As it turns out, they were real people. The 19 Crimes website states, "Upon conviction, British rogues guilty of a least one of the 19 crimes were sentenced to live in Australia, rather than death. This punishment by "transportation" began in 1783 and many of the lawless died at sea. As pioneers in a frontier penal colony, they forged a new country and new lives, brick by brick. This wine celebrates the rules they broke and the culture they built." Since the wine is made in Australia, it all makes sense.

The cool thing is, the wine isn't even expensive. It's less than $10 a bottle and comes in seven different flavors. My friend tried the Shiraz and said it was really good. I looked at the store locator on their website, and it's available at pretty much every Hy-Vee in the area. So, if you're looking for a bit of a conversation starter for one of your holiday events, this wine could be a good option!
