Brett Young and his wife Taylor are preparing to welcome their first child soon, and the country singer is looking to his wife as the "north star" in the parenting process.

Young admits he's in awe of his wife — a feeling he expects to amplify when she becomes a mother.

"One of the things people keep telling me, and I know it's true but I can't wait to see it, is just how your wife becomes Superwoman when she has a child," Young told Taste of Country before a recent Hilton Honors showcase at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.

He adds that he's "always wanted to be a dad" and is "excited" for every aspect of parenting.

"I'm already such a big fan of her, and so impressed with her, I can't imagine being more inspired by her," Young gushes of his wife. "Apparently that's about to happen, so I'm excited to see her take on that role."

The Youngs announced in April that Taylor was pregnant, revealing a week later that they're expecting a baby girl. The "In Case You Didn't Know" singer says he plans to encourage their daughter to embrace her mother as a role model, just as he did with his father growing up. Young sings about his dad — a pastor and his son's little league coach — as his hero in his song "Chapters," and he hopes his and Taylor's daughter feels that same sense of admiration for her mom.

"I'm so fortunate to have my wife because I'm literally just going to be pointing at mom all the time saying, 'Do that, be like that,'" Young reflects. "I grew up a very guy's guy, played every sport in the book, and had an incredible mom, but as a boy, you look at your dad. So I'm just going to tell her to be like mom all the time. That's the goal."
