This may come as sad news for coffee drinkers out there.

Brazil’s government says they will harvest 55.74 million bags of coffee in 2022. While this is a 16.8 percent increase from 2021, experts are saying it’s less than they expected.

Reuters says this smaller-than-expected yield is important because Brazil is key in balancing the global coffee supply. Small numbers can cause a deficit and keep prices where they are- which is already at a 10-year high.

Factors that affected Brazil’s coffee fields in the past year include several severe touches of frost and the worst drought conditions seen in the last 90 years.

Frost that hit Brazil last July delivered a big blow to the coffee belt. Many expected a loss of millions of bags of coffee from the incident.

An Egg-stra Big Donation

If you went shopping at Fareway on December 6th-11th, you probably heard of the promotion “buy two dozen eggs, give one dozen eggs”

From that campaign, the Food Bank of Iowa will be receiving 24,000 dozen eggs.

Getting donations of eggs is rare so foodbanks have to rely on donations from egg producers, wholesalers, and retailers to be able to provide pantry guests with eggs.

The Food Bank of Iowa will be distributing 10,800 dozen eggs to food pantries in 55 counties across the state. The rest will go to other Feeding America Food Banks throughout Iowa.

The eggs will be distributed to food banks across Iowa including Food Bank of Iowa, Northeast Iowa Food Bank, Food Bank for the Heartland, Hawkeye Area Community Action Program, River Bend Foodbank, and Food Bank of Siouxland.
