I blame Brain for this...

I know some people think New Year's resolutions are stupid and pointless, but I don't really agree. I like to set goals for myself at the beginning of the year because it gives me hope. A fresh start is motivating to me, and you know what? I did pretty darn good these past few years. I still haven't lost 30 pounds or saved any money, but those are pretty lofty goals, honestly. I like to set my sights on things that I know I can achieve, that way I don't get discouraged.

For 2016 I had a few resolutions, but the main one was to learn to play guitar. I found myself a teacher, I took two lessons a month for like 8 months, and I practiced 4-5 days a week. It's currently December and the practice hasn't stopped. I may not be able to afford lessons anymore, but my guitar teacher set me up with all of the basics, and the internet has so much information available that I've been able to teach myself a few things. I'm not by any means "good" and when people ask if I play I respond with, "I'm trying," but this is something I've wanted to do for years, and I finally followed through.

There is one resolution I failed, though, but I'm not going to take all the blame. If you listen to the show, then you know that Brain is a huge Star Wars nerd and I'm a huge Harry Potter nerd. Back in January, I found out that Brain has not seen a single Harry Potter movie. I was offended. As a die-hard Harry Potter fan, I felt compelled to convince him to watch it. He agreed, but said only if I committed to watching all of the Star Wars movies. I grew up with a younger brother, so I've seen a lot of them already, but I agreed. I would watch Star Wars if he watched Harry Potter. Guess what never happened?

Listen, I know it's partially my fault, but I have all the free time in the world. Brain has a wife and kids, so his free time is a little more scarce. I wasn't about to start watching the Star Wars movies just to have him bail on the Harry Potter movies! No way! Maybe he will finally be able to commit next year. It is a kid-friendly movie series, after all.
