Des Moines comedian Dante Powell recently released a comedy album that made it to the top of the comedy charts on iTunes and Amazon!

According to a new article from the Des Moines RegisterDante Powell of Des Moines, Iowa released his debut comedy album The Squirrels Get Fat back on May 22nd. On the day of its release, the album went to number one on the iTunes comedy chart. Stand Up! Records, the label that produced the album, shared the big news on their official Facebook page:

Wikipedia reports that 32-year-old Dante Powell moved to Des Moines from Bernice, Louisiana back in 2012 for his (now ex) girlfriend. He began doing stand-up comedy just two years later. A lot of his content has to do with the differences between growing up in the south and now adjusting to life in the Midwest. He told the Register that "being a black comedian in a majority white state brings a unique perspective." Some of the bits on his 14-track comedy album are titled, "Des Moines," "Merle Hay Mall," and "Moving to Iowa."

Since getting his start in comedy, Dante has performed at several festivals, including the High Plains Comedy Festival in Denver in 2018 and the 10,000 Laughs Festival in Minneapolis last year. His Wikipedia page says The Squirrels Get Fat was actually recorded here in Eastern Iowa at Iowa City's Floodwater Comedy Festival in 2019.

We're excited to see a fellow Iowan making a name for himself in the comedy community! The Squirrels Get Fat is available to stream now on iTunes, Spotify, and Amazon (warning: there is some explicit content). You can read more on Dante's career in his interview with the Des Moines Register HERE.
