Beginning today, you'll be able to fly non-stop from Cedar Rapids to Los Angeles thanks to Allegiant Air. The airline will feature two weekly flights from The Eastern Iowa Airport to Los Angeles during the summer months. The flights are scheduled for Wednesday and Saturday afternoons.

So why aren't there non-stop flights to L.A. all year long? Allegiant says the market is very seasonal. The airline has to balance the cost of various fees at Los Angeles International Airport.

People who use the seasonal service to Los Angeles come from primarily urban areas. Allegiant says that passengers who use their other flights to cities like Orlando, Phoneix, Tampa Bay and Punta Gorda come from both urban and rural areas.
