At least four different Cedar Rapids and Marion retailers closed early this evening, June 1, after social media threats of looting.

KCRG reports all three Walmart stores in the Cedar Rapids metro in the southwest and northeast parts of Cedar Rapids, and also the location in Marion, closed early due to the threats.

I stopped at the northeast side Walmart store in Cedar Rapids early Monday evening and also found the Sam's Club store was closed. The Sam's Club gas station also appeared to be closed. Other area businesses were still open as of approximately 7:30 p.m.

While I was at the Blairs Ferry Road location, Cedar Rapids Police arrived and backed into the garden center area of the Walmart store. Both the Walmart and Sam's Club stores had large items piled either outside the doors, or just inside, as you'll see in the pictures below.

The looting threat came on the same day that the Mayor of Coralville announced an evening and overnight curfew until further notice following a number of arrests last night. There's also a curfew in effect in Davenport after four people were shot, and two killed last night in that city. One of the people shot last night in Davenport was a police officer. His injuries were non-life threatening.
