Alison Krauss and Union Station Returning to Cedar Rapids
Country music is filled with talented artists and unique voices. But there is perhaps no female country singer that can sing like Alison Krauss. I guess if you forced me to choose a word to describe her vocal talents it would be 'Angelic'. I once had a co-worker tell me that he believed that the voice of God sounded like Johnny Cash and his angels sang like Alison Krauss. High praise to be sure!
Alison Krauss has been performing country and bluegrass music since the age of eight. She joined the group Union Station in 1989 and has been recording with them ever since. Krauss has released 14 albums in her career. She helped spark a renewed interest in bluegrass music, especially with her work on the soundtrack to the movies O Brother Where Art Thou? and Cold Mountain. She has also collaborated with rock legend Robert Plant on two albums.
In 1995, her cover of Keith Whitley's song 'When You Say Nothing at All' dominated the country airwaves, and won her four CMA Awards that year. Krauss has won 27 Grammy Awards on 42 nominations ranking her fourth all-time. She was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 1993.
