Fans of Mexican food, today is a great Monday. The second location in Cedar Rapids for Abelardos Mexican Fresh will open today!

Abelardos announced late in 2023 that they would be opening a second Cedar Rapids location. This was before their first location had even opened! Abelardos eventually opened their first CR location in the old Taco Johns building at 4401 1st. Ave. SE.

The Gazette reports that the restaurant is described as fast-casual and also includes a drive-thru. I've been to this location several times and have enjoyed my food each visit. The second Cedar Rapids location would be the old Dairy Queen location at 11 Wilson Ave. SW. The DQ closed in June of 2022 after sustaining damage in a fire.

The public has been wondering when the new southwest side location would be opening and today is the day. The Wilson Ave. Abelardos opens this morning at 10 a.m. The menu features items like breakfast burritos, breakfast plates, rolled taquitos, numerous kinds of nachos, quesadillas, and more!

The Gazette reports that the Nebraska-based chain has over 30 locations across the Midwest. They first came to Iowa with a Des Moines location in 2011. Now the Des Moines/Ames market has six restaurants, making it the second largest market after Nebraska. Could the Corridor be far behind?
