A once-popular coffee shop on 1st Avenue has been transformed into a restaurant that serves a type of cuisine that's new to Cedar Rapids!

The building at 1271 1st Avenue SE has been vacant for quite some time since Brewed Awakenings closed permanently back in 2020, but now it's home to something totally different. If you're sick of the same old burgers and wings and tacos, you may want to venture over to Tee's Liberian Dish!

The Facebook page for Tee's Liberian Dish says that it's the "best and only African restaurant in Cedar Rapids." They serve authentic Liberian food, which is something that many of us Midwesterners have never experienced. According to a recent article from the Cedar Rapids Gazette, "the Liberian menu features a variety of unique stews, meats, gravies and rices. Dishes include fufu, a popular sticky dough; jollof rice with tomatoes and onions; and attieke made from fermented cassava, fish and vegetables." There is no official menu listed online, but the Facebook page does feature some photos of the food, and you can see here:

Tee's Liberian Dish is owned by Teepeu Pewu, and not only offers dine-in services, but catering as well. It appears that they also serve breakfast now, so they're open early. The hours listed on Facebook are Monday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.

It's really nice to see some different types of cuisine make their way to the Corridor, so we hope Tee's Liberian Dish sees lots of success here in Cedar Rapids! You can get more information on the restaurant's Facebook page HERE.
