A Popular Chicken Wing Chain is Headed to Eastern Iowa
Get ready for wings and waffle fries! According to a recent article from the Cedar Rapids Gazette, a popular wing franchise called Atomic Wings is headed to the Midwest.
Atomic Wings is a New York-based wing chain that got its start back in the 1980s. The official website reads:
"Atomic Wings was originally conceived in 1981. Our founder, Adam Lippin, couldn’t find the hot, crispy wings that he savored during his college years in Buffalo. So, he spent several years perfecting the process, recipe, and art behind the perfect chicken wing, and in 1989 he was able to open the first Atomic Wings location in New York City."
As of right now, Atomic Wings is planning a total of ten locations in Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. The first location is coming to Sioux Falls, South Dakota in early 2024, with more to follow over the course of seven years. Here in Eastern Iowa, planned locations include Iowa City, the Quad Cities, and Cedar Falls, with Des Moines also on the company's radar. They are currently looking for franchisees in each market.
The menu at Atomic Wings differs by location, but all of them serve their signature wings with 14 different sauce options, including Thai Chili, Lemon Pepper, Mango Habanero, Garlic Parmesan, Teriyaki, Honey Mustard, and Chipotle BBQ. If you're in the mood for something else, the menu also features salads, chicken sandwiches, chicken & waffles, burgers, and more. As far as appetizers and sides go, diners can choose from jalapeno poppers, mozz sticks, onion rings, tater tots, and waffle fries.
We don't know exactly when Atomic Wings will arrive in Eastern Iowa, but we will be sure to keep you updated! We can't wait to give this place a try!
