The intention, ideally, is for folks to be able to more easily and quickly learn about their ancestors or anyone buried in the cemetery.

KPTM says Prospect Hill Cemetery in Omaha, Nebraska has begun installing QR codes on tombstones. There are currently a limited number of these QR-coded tombstones.

Whether this becomes a widespread concept has yet to be seen, but this particular cemetery is a good starting point, because of some of the histories it has to tell. Prospect Hill board member Shannon Justice said:

We have a madam that had a house of ill-repute here, stage coach robbers, murderers, but those codes aren't ready to be scanned yet

Prospect Hill vice president Gary Rosenberg is currently the only one handling the task of installing these QR codes, so they are on the lookout for volunteers and donations to help them continue their quest to code as many tombstones as they can in their cemetery. If you're in the Omaha area, don't be creepy about it, but you can check out some of the coded tombstones and learn about who might be laid to rest there. Prospect Hill Cemetery and Arboretum is located at 3202 Parker Street, Omaha, NE 68111.
