A team of volunteers is doing great things for the community at ImOn Ice Arena in Cedar Rapids.

Today (April 8) and tomorrow, 120 volunteers will be hard at work on the ice where the Cedar Rapids Roughriders normally play. The volunteers will be joining the Hawkeye Area Community Action Plan (HACAP) food reservoir to pack an amazing 5,000 food boxes for area residents feeling the impacts of COVID-19.

In a media release, ImOn Ice General Manager Erik Hudson said,

During this time, we are excited that the City of Cedar Rapids, ImOn Ice Arena, VenuWorks, and HACAP can utilize the facility. HACAP has been tremendous to work with during this time and we are looking forward to the impact this effort will have.

The 5,000 meals will be distributed Thursday, April 9 across the seven counties served by HACAP. They will go to a variety of places, including homes, school feeding sites, and mobile food pantries. In addition, a pop-up food pantry will be open beginning Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. in the parking lot of Veteran's Memorial Stadium. The parking lot is located next to ImOn Ice Arena.
