As a newish resident of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, I’d like to give you some reasons why Cedar Rapids might NOT be the place for you.  If you’re thinking about moving here, take these factors into account, it’ll save you some heartache.

Reason One, lots of parks, I’m not one to count but at last check, there were 74, parks, and crazy, word is, there could be more in the future.  Nature trails, nature playscapes, and bird viewing areas at places like Indian Creek Nature Center.  So, if you’re anti-park, strike one Cedar Rapids. Told ya, scary.

Reason Two, Many Museums that are major attractions.  The National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library, which is amazing, unless you don’t like that kinda thing, or maybe The Grant Wood Studio where the artist painted his famous American Gothic portrait.  Again, if you think there could be a nice patch of grass where that museum sits, uh, maybe, Cedar Rapids, might not be for you.

Reason Three, is history, Cedar Rapids and the surrounding area like to preserve history, and you can learn all about people and how they lived at places like the Amana Colonies or even the Herbert Hoover birthplace.  If you’re feeling like the audacity that they’d try to save this stuff, maybe, just maybe Iowa and Cedar Rapids isn’t for you.

Reason Four, Amazing Food options and even more on the way.  Some 20 years ago I lived in downtown Cedar Rapids and even McDonald’s left town.  Now, wow, options galore and they’re awesome options!  NewBo City Market, El Dorado Bar & Grill, Big Grove Brewing, Izumi Sushi & Hibachi, and many others with more on the way.  Look, if spoiled or long outdated food is your groove, maybe Cedar Rapids and the fantastic eating options are not in your lane.

Let’s recap.  If you’re not a fan of Great parks, many amazing museums, preservation of history, and fantastic food well, it seems that the underwater city of Atlantis might be your next stop.  They have none of this, again, last time we checked. Good luck!
