25 Things Exclusive to Iowans and Their State
We Iowans know that the place we come from and the collection of people we're a part of is unique. I mean, with all this corn, you've got to be a little different, right?
Here are 25 things that make Iowa stand out from the rest.
25 Things Exclusive to Iowans and Their State
A personal story I have in regards to our home state comes from one of my few trips to other parts of the country.
When working at Camp Pontiac in upstate New York, a sleep-away camp for kids coming from affluent families largely in New York and Florida, I made a large group of friends from all around the world. Counselors came from Florida, Arizona, California, and even England and other parts of the United Kingdom. I'm still in contact with a few of these friends today, and may just schedule a trip to one of the sunnier states to visit a couple this winter.
On the last day of camp, saying goodbye was hard, but I was ready to head back to school at UNI and see my family again.
When saying goodbyes and giving out hugs, my go-to line was "Hey, if you want to see some corn, you can always visit." It got a laugh like 70% of the time.
These people really had no idea what I was talking about, though.
When driving on the highway back to Cedar Falls, I sent a 30-second Snapchat video to my group of friends that was strictly cornfields next to the road. My caption? "I told you."
I can see all the surprised faces and responses now. For example, "OMG. You weren't lying."
