2019 Fall Colors Will Be At Their Peak In A Couple Of Months
Fall is almost here! The official first day of fall is Monday, September 23 and the countdown is on.
There are so many amazing things about the season like crisp air, bonfires, pumpkin spice lattes (debatable), warm clothes, cozy blankets, and the thing most people look forward to-- fall colors! The Smoky Mountains National Parks Service has released their fall foliage prediction map for 2019. This is a good indicator of when the leaves will change to give us that beautiful fall background. According to the map, we're going to start seeing some patches of color starting in early October. That's the peach to orange colors.
Toward the end of October we're going to really start seeing some color, as most of the state will be nearing peak.
The purplish color on the map indicates peak fall colors. According to the prediction map, we're going to see a lot more of that purple in November. The map shows Iowa's fall colors coming to a peak on November 2. This is a little bit later than last year's prediction.
Don't expect those fabulous fall colors to stay long though. They'll quickly fade throughout the month, and by Thanksgiving most of the country will be past the peak. Forget the turkey, we're ready for the fall colors, so bring on November! Okay, maybe leave the turkey.
Good news is we've only got a month to wait. Then it's prime pumpkin spice latte and picture taking season. Do you have photos that show just how beautiful fall in Iowa can be? Share them with us in the comments.
