16-Year-Old Killed in Overnight Shooting in Cedar Rapids
Cedar Rapids Police are investigating the shooting death of a 16-year-old overnight, the fourth teen to be shot and killed in the city in just over 11 months.
According to a media release from Greg Buelow, the Cedar Rapids Public Safety Communications Coordinator, the shooting happened early this morning. Officers with the Cedar Rapids Police Department responded to the 200 block of 15th Street N.W. after receiving a number of reports of shots fired in the area at 12:23 a.m.
When officers arrived on the scene two minutes later, they found 16-year-old Judeah Dawson laying in the street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite emergency medical care being provided, Dawson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dawson is the fourth teenager to be killed in a shooting in Cedar Rapids since May 18, 2019.
Two 18-year-olds, Matrell M.E. Johnson and Royal C. Abram, were killed at the Iowa Smoke Shop on Kirkwood Ct. S.W. on May 18 of last year. In early June, 26-year-old Andre D. Richardson was arrested and charged in their deaths.
18-year-old Andrew D. Gaston was killed in a shooting on January 24 of this year at the corner of Blairs Ferry Road and Agin Ct. N.E. Last month, 17-year-old Kyler D. Carson was arrested and charged with Voluntary Manslaughter, along with other charges. 16-year-old Tyler J. Gaston also faces charges in that case.
