There is a celebration this Saturday night for a nonprofit organization that has been helping people with their health and social needs in Eastern Iowa and nationwide for 150 years.

The YMCA has five locations in the Cedar Rapids metro area alone and when you become a member, you get access to all of them. If you're intimidated by going to a gym like I was, but know you need to do something about your health and well-being by getting the exercise you need, the Y is the place to do it, at a low cost, contingent on your income.

Membership dues stay completely local to keep the YMCA's facilities and programs running here. I am partial to the Helen G. Nassif downtown location but you can find the one most convenient for you here. While it is a nonprofit, they do need donations to keep their facilities open and running in good condition for the community.

This Saturday night, November 3 from 6-10 p.m., they host a special event at the Doubletree by Hilton hotel, 350 1st Avenue in downtown Cedar Rapids. The event will include a banquet, a program detailing the Y's history, and entertainment from PIANOPALOOZA. All proceeds benefit this vital local organization. It will be a joint event to celebrate Camp Wapsie's 100th anniversary of providing summer camp experiences for area youth.

You can get more information and order tickets at the event page on Facebook.
