The 48th CMA Awards were packed with plenty of live performances, humor from it's hosts and some unforgettable moments.  For a 3 hour awards show, I thought it flew right by.  Did everything go off without a hitch?  No, as no awards show is perfect.  Here are some of the things I loved, and some things I didn't love about the CMAs!

What I Loved!

  • Brad and Carrie!  Hosting together for the 7th year, the two have great chemistry.  They mix in music with their humor, and aren't afraid to poke fun at themselves.  The opening monologue was topical, funny and didn't hurt anyone's    feelings...except Renee Zellweger.
  • Lots of Performances!  While the audio wasn't perfect on all the performances, chances are you saw your favorite singer perform.  I loved Little Big Town, Keith Urban, Miranda Lambert and Florida Georgia Line.
  • Shocked Winners!  It's always fun to see people win, who have never won before, or didn't expect to.  Brett Eldridge and Kacey Musgraves were fun to watch.  And kudos to Luke Bryan on a great speech when he clearly was overwhelmed at winning EOY.

What I Didn't Like!

  • Poor Audio.  Not sure if it was just the TV audio, but some performances sounded flat, or off.  Dial it in CMAs!
  • Too Much Pop?  I understand not having Taylor Swift there left a bit of a void, but did we really need both Meghan Trainor AND Ariana Grande?  Seemed like a forced attempt at luring in a younger audience.
  • Strait/Church.  Give them BOTH their own performance.  George is the King, and Eric was up for multiple awards.  A shame that both didn't have their own chance to shine.
  • Closing The Show!  I dug the first Doobie Brothers number, and yes, I get they have an album to promote.  But to then give them a 2nd spot to close out the show?  Psssst!  Garth Brooks is standing on stage....hand him a mic!!!!
