You may know that Alec Baldwin has hosted Saturday Night Live more than any other performer. But do you know who holds the record for number of appearances on our hometown stage? That stage I'm talking about is the U.S. Cellular Center in downtown Cedar Rapids.

The venue opened on January 25th, 1979. It was originally called The Five Seasons Center. The first concert featured English rock band Yes, on April 25, 1979. Since then, the building has hosted hundreds of concerts and sporting events.

So, what artist or group has played the U.S. Cellular Center the most times? I tracked down the list from Jade Tauber, Director of Sales and Marketing for the venue.

I'll admit, I was surprised at the #1 spot!

    ZZ Top

The little ol' band from Texas have played a total of 6 times at the U.S. Cellular Center. I was surprised this number wasn't higher. Not once did the boys purchase shaving cream while in Cedar Rapids. (FACT)

    Oak Ridge Boys

The Oak Ridge Boys have played the venue a total of 7 times. Rumor has it, Duane Allen and Joe Bonsall would frequent the old City News and Books store that was located directly across the street from the venue.

    Barry Manilow

Our old friend Barry Manilow is actually tied with the Oak Ridge Boys at 7 appearances at the Cell Center in Cedar Rapids. I wonder if Manilow ever had a meal at Sub City or walked up to Moose McDuffy's for a dry martini?

    KISS

KISS was my guess for the #1 spot, but they'll have to settle for second. The band has performed 9 times in Cedar Rapids over the last 30 years. The venue was very convenient for them...When KISS needed extra make-up, they could simply walk down the street to Balloons Etc. & The Costume Emporium.

    Kenny Rogers

The number one spot belongs to "The Gambler!" That's right, Kenny Rogers has played the U.S. Cellular Center more then any other performer. He's had 10 concerts here since the venue opened in 1979. With that much time in Cedar Rapids, I'm surprised he never opened up one of his famous Kenny Rogers Roasters chain restaurants!
