It's no secret our diets have changed. Just since the 1990s, our consumption of certain products have gone way up, and so has the number of calories. Take alcohol for example. In 1992, the average person got 2.5% of their calories from alcohol. Today that number is up to 10%. Yes, we love our beer, wine and mixed drinks don't we. But that isn't the biggest caloric culprit. Sugar and sweetners used to account for around 8% of our caloric intake. Today is over 16%. Couple that with the fact that vegetable consumption has gone down by nearly half, and you can understand why obesity rates are on the rise. What will these trends look like in the next 20 years?
