Warning Signs Say High E. coli Levels in Lake Macbride
In the landlocked state of Iowa, there aren't many options when it comes to cooling off in the summertime. Unless you're lucky enough to have a swimming pool in your backyard.
Now it looks like there is one less option as the Department of Natural Resources reports higher than acceptable levels of E. coli contamination at Lake Macbride Beach.
Warning signs are now posted at nine area state park beaches telling swimmers to beware. It's especially important to watch young children closely as they may swallow water while swimming. Symptoms of E. coli infection can include nausea and diarrhea.
The DNR checks these levels regularly, so you can find out if your nearby beach passed or failed their latest testing by checking with the DNR website.
