A mid-morning report of road rage on Interstate 380 near North Liberty ended with two 17-year-old Cedar Rapids men facing a number of charges.

According to a release from the North Liberty Police Department, officers were called to I-380 and Penn Street around 09:20 this morning. They were responding to a male caller who told authorities a handgun had been pointed at him while traveling on the interstate. Another incident happened at Penn Street and Kansas Avenue in North Liberty. No one was injured in either of the two incidents and officers identified everyone involved.

Witnesses told police where two handguns had been hidden before they arrived on the scene. Officers found the two guns, one of which had been reported stolen from Cedar Rapids. They then arrested the two Cedar Rapids teens and charged both with aggravated and felony weapons violations. The charges include:

  • Assault While Displaying a Weapon
  • Possession of a Weapon By a Felon
  • Trafficking in Stolen Weapons
  • Carrying Weapons

The names of the two teens were not released, because they're juveniles. They were taken to the Linn County Detention Center. The case is being assigned to Juvenile Court Services.
